Why boudoir photography

“Why Boudoir Photography?”

Sometimes I find it hard to put into words about why I love photographing boudoir so much. To me, it’s more about self acceptance, body love, and art. It’s about pampering yourself (whether you want to go full glam or not), laughing, and having a great experience. It’s about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk through my studio doors and walk back out. It’s about feeling beautiful, and that is a feeling everyone deserves.

The Transformation

The transformation that takes place in the studio is the best part of the whole experience. When these amazing femmes arrive at the studio, sometimes they can be nervous, complete with shaky hands and voices, but once they get to sit back and relax while hair and makeup is being done they start to shed those feelings and move into being excited.

Once we start the actual session, I always have clients start with their most comfortable piece of wardrobe and use the least difficult poses, to help ease into things. Then as we progress through the session I almost always see a shift and posing becomes more natural as they embrace their fierceness.

By the time we’ve finished shooting and go into the ordering session, we’ve laughed and shared stories about our lives. It’s a time to connect and celebrate!

Once I show them their pictures on the large tv screen, their jaws drop! They get to see themselves like they never have before. And that is one the most amazing things about boudoir photography! I get a chance to show them how the world sees them and when they walk out that door, they’re smiling so big and can’t wait to tell their friends all about what they just did.

A Little Bit About How I Started This Journey

I found boudoir photography at a very important time in my life. I was going through many life changes and immediately connected with the genre. It really enforced that our bodies are beautiful and strong and that we are not flawed.

I grew up bullied for having totally natural features such as body hair, being curvier, stretch marks, and not fitting the “regular” beauty standards. And that can be so damaging. I see it all the time with my clients and it’s so important that I provide a safe space for them to embrace themselves, celebrate everything they’ve accomplished, and show them they are incredible beings!

Once I found boudoir it was love at first sight. My passion for it has only grown over the years. I am so excited to continue my journey with such amazing clients with my new studio here in Kingston, ON!
