A super important question to ask when getting married is what to look for when hiring a wedding photographer.
One of the most important elements of a wedding day is having a photographer there to document such a special time in your life, especially since the day goes by SO fast. You’re going to be busy enjoying everything, hanging out with family and friends, and it’s important that your day is captured as you envisioned.
My name is Jackie and I’m a Kingston wedding photographer and I’m here to help you! It can be hard to decide but here are three important things to look for when choosing your photographer for the day.
What type of coverage do you need for the day?
Are you planning a full day event? Or are you opting for something more low key? Most photographers will offer a range of options for coverage to help fit your needs. On average, most of my clients want photos of themselves getting ready for the day all the way up to the reception. In between we are capturing all of those candid moments, especially during the ceremony, and you can’t forget formal photos as well!
What is their experience level?
Matching a photographer with your wedding day in terms of experience is important. Do they have past experience photographing a wedding similar to your’s? If not, are they excited and willing to trying something new with your wedding? Experience is of course gained as we work with more and more couples so just make sure your photographer is comfortable working with you to create beautiful images of your wedding day.
How do you want your wedding day to be captured?
This can be broken down into two parts. The first being overall style and the second being the feel of the photos.
For style, do you want your images to be captured in a way that is bright and airy? Or do you prefer your images to be more on the moodier side? Sometimes clients want a mixture of both, which is totally fine. This is a really important question to ask yourself and once you’re made a decision, let your photographer know.
For the feel of the photos, do you want your images to be super candid and in the moment, or do you want them to be more posed? Wedding photography has definitely switched over to a more candid/lifestyle look versus being overly posed. But it is your wedding so working with your wedding photographer to make sure it’s captured how you envision is important. Make sure to look at their portfolio to see if they can document the day as planned.
So there you have it! My top three important topics to consider when hiring a wedding photographer!
